Can Dockit Migrator for SharePoint be installed in a desktop / workstation?

Yes, Dockit Migrator for SharePoint can be installed and run from a Windows 10 / 8.1 / 8 / 7 client computer with .NET Framework 4.6. Read System Requirements.

Can I connect to a remote SharePoint server or Office 365 site using Dockit Migrator for SharePoint?

Yes, you can connect to a remote Microsoft SharePoint 2016 / 2013 / 2010 / MOSS 2007 / WSS v3.0 server within your local network or an Office 365 site by specifying the required user credentials.

Can I import folders & documents and list items to multiple SharePoint lists?

Yes. Dockit Migrator for SharePoint allows you to import folders/documents and list items to multiple SharePoint lists in a single import / migration task. You can do so by using the batch file task option or use the Dockit Migrator for SharePoint Explorer UI to drag-and-drop documents or list items into multiple lists along with associated metadata.

What are the precautions to be taken when migrating file share contents to SharePoint using Dockit Migrator for SharePoint?

Ensure the network traffic is minimal while copying documents / files / metadata from remote shares on the network.
Avoid running any other applications in the background during the content migration process.
Temporarily disable any anti-virus software that may be running during the migration operation (if necessary).
Good hardware configuration.
Run the content migration tasks during off-peak usage of SharePoint environment.

Can Dockit Migrator for SharePoint propagate the NTFS permissions defined in my source folders and files to Microsoft SharePoint?

Yes, Dockit Migrator for SharePoint does propagate NTFS permissions to SharePoint. Dockit Migrator for SharePoint user using the application must have read permissions in the source folder / file to retrieve the NTFS permissions.

What permissions are required in Dockit Migrator for SharePoint to import content?

The following permissions must be enabled at the web application level:
- Site Permissions - View Pages, Use Remote Interfaces, Open
- List Permissions - Override Check Out, Add Items, Edit Items, Delete Items, View Items
For the content migration task to run as expected, the given user credential must have at least View, Add, Update and Delete permissions in the destination SharePoint list.
For Dockit Migrator for SharePoint to perform a Cancel Checkout operation on a document or list item, which is currently checked out by another user, Override Check Out must be enabled in the List Permissions. Also, the user performing the import task must have Full Control in the destination SharePoint list.
For updating System Dates (Created Date and Last Modified Date), System Users (Created By and Modified By) and Content Approval (Approved, Pending and Draft) of folders / files / list items in SharePoint, the user name specified in SharePoint login / user account specified in the Run As parameter in the scheduled task should be:
- Member of administrators group in the local server and remote SQL Server (or)
- Application pool user account (or)
- Owner of the site where the destination SharePoint list resides
For assigning roles and permissions, the given user credential must have Modify list permission level in the destination SharePoint list.

Can Dockit Migrator for SharePoint import tasks be invoked from the command line?

Yes, you can invoke import tasks created in Dockit Migrator for SharePoint application using the import task wizard from either the DOS command prompt or Windows Task Scheduler. Please refer to the relevant sections in the application help document for more information.

Can Dockit Migrator for SharePoint import contents to multiple OneDrive user locations?

Dockit Migrator for SharePoint has Migrate contents to OneDrive for Business task option that enables the user to migrate the shared folder contents to the selected target OneDrive user’s location. The list of options available are as follows:

Select set of user accounts - It allows the user account to migrate user folder contents for a set of users to migrate their contents to their respective OneDrive storage. Using this option, a single user using the application can group a set of users and migrate their contents.
All users in the personal site collection – It allows the user account to migrate user folder contents of ALL users to migrate their contents to their respective OneDrive storage. Using this option, a single user account can group a set of users and migrate their contents.

Can Dockit Migrator for SharePoint preserve metadata such as date created/modified and the person who last modified/created the contents from file system to SharePoint?

In order to preserve the metadata values (Created Date, Modified Date, Modified By, and Created By) in SharePoint, ensure that you have installed Dockit Migrator for SharePoint Web Service component in target on-premise SharePoint servers. Please refer Dockit Migrator for SharePoint Web Service online help section for more details.

In case, if the target is SharePoint Online (Office 365), we recommend you to deploy the sandbox solution Vyapin.SandBox.wsp (which is equivalent to Dockit Migrator for SharePoint Web Service) in SharePoint Online that enables the product to update these SharePoint fields seamlessly.
